One of our priorities is to champion those who are marginalised when trying to access health care in MK.

Citizens Advice MK is working with Traverse, an independent research consultancy, to conduct research with people living in the UK who have no recourse to public funds (NRPF).

This research will be used by Citizens Advice to inform their campaign to end the no recourse to public funds policy. They are looking for ten people to take part in a series of workshops. To take part the people need to:

Be currently subject to the No Recourse to Public Funds visa condition OR have had the NRPF condition lifted in the past two years

Have been detrimentally affected by the NRPF condition. This criteria is intentionally broad because they’re interested in speaking to people with a range of experiences.

Be on either a family or work visa

Be able to participate in an online workshop in English. Migrants with English as a second language are we come to apply but Citizens Advice cannot provide interpreters.

Should someone need a little support with English or the technology needed to take part, they can support up to 5 participants attending with a friend or family member.  Be comfortable talking in a group environment with other people who they do not know. This conversation will involve them sharing their experiences of no recourse to public funds.

The three workshops will happen online on these dates:

    Workshop 1: Thursday 16th September 1pm - 2.30pm

    Workshop 2: Tuesday 21st September 10am - 11.30am

    Workshop 3: Tuesday 5th October 11am - 12.30pm

Participants will need to be able to attend all three dates to take part. For more information please contact: NRPF@traverse.ltd Or http://chibwe.mushibwe@mkcab.org.uk

Each person will receive a total of £150.00 for taking part in the three workshops. This can be provided via bank transfer or high street shopping voucher. The results of the research will be used by Citizens Advice to develop their strategy to influence the government to address and alleviate areas of harm caused by NRPF, with a view to scrapping the scheme entirely.

We want to make you aware of a FREE ‘Type 1 & Tech’ online event organised by Diabetes UK, which you may be interested in or able to share with someone who is. It’s a conference connecting the type 1 diabetes community with healthcare professionals and researchers and it will take place on Saturday, 16 October 2021 from 10:00am to 2:00 pm.

The conference will be hosted by Professor Partha Kar OBE, National Diabetes Specialty Advisor at NHS England and Consultant Endocrinologist at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and introduced by Dan Howarth, Head of Care at Diabetes UK.

The conference has been running since 2018 and run by Diabetes UK Cymru team in partnership with Swansea University. This year we’ll be building on the event’s past success and promoting the conference as a UK-wide event.

The conference offers a variety of topics in engaging and interactive formats, such as live poll, and it features a jam-packed agenda of researchers, healthcare professionals and people living with type 1 sharing their experiences. This year we’ll cover issues highlighted by the coronavirus pandemic through presentations, conversations and opportunities for questions and debates with experts, as it analyses the ever-growing role of technology in diabetes care.

Sign up for the event is now open: https://eu.eventscloud.com/t1andtech21
